Hurm... true- my truck without a trailer gets 20 miles per gallon. At 3334 miles to Gerlach and back, and gas at $5 a gallon that'll be approx $833 for us to drive out there and back. Considering that flight tickets cost $381 each (currently) plus the 4x$50 tickets there and back again =(200) the fly out total will be $962.00 not including the cost of gas to pay for shipping our stuff out with Melodie. I'm still not totally convinced one way or another. We've not really discussed whether or not we could ride with Melodie out there. I know you've got an extended cab, so maybe that would be a smart option. My only concern is if we don't take another car out, the trailer you've got absolutely wouldn't be big enough to haul everything we have. So that tosses another $400 (cost 391 last year) for a rental trailer onto the cost. Assuming that Melodie's truck gets 8/10 miles to the gallon pulling a trailer (mine got 8!!! last year) that will cost $2083.75 + 400 /3= approx $827 per person which is more than twice what we will pay separately. This is all assuming that gas will cost $5 a gallon. At the current rate of 4.00 it would cost us a heady $666 to drive my truck out.
Perhaps we should really consider making metal domes-- they'd be a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to haul. Do you have price specs on that Michael?

Yeah actually I do. There's a couple initial investments. 15 ton hydraulic press; 90$. Chop saw with metal blade; 200$ (for a middle range dewalt) Materials, at approximately 800$ (probably less if I do serious investigation on bulk conduit.)
I'd like to make a 3v, but the above cost is estimated for a 2v. 2v dome will be alittle above a grand, 3v will be a little under $1500.
Estimated "3 casual weekends" to build.

Oh, we'd need 400' for a 2v and 800' for a 3v. 1/2" regular steel conduit is suggested.
My truck can hold 4 comfortably, provided the cab is not packed with stuff. I am good with riding out together in either truck. We would have to coordinate our work schedules. Right now I have confirmed Aug 25 through Sep 2 off.
